ONLINE GAMES to become a winner
Online addiction
Video games take a lot of flak these days. At the mention of any incident
involving teenagers or kids, video games seem to be one of the first riding the
guillotine. Although many of the accusations are silly and outlandish, there is
some warning to be considered. Online games can be addictive, to a crippling and
dangerous point. Video games or online games such as
Battlestar Galactica are
fun and joy, but are as addictive as anything else. Like any addiction, online addiction can be destructive. This
isn’t the online games fault, but rather the folly of the player.
One of the first big titles to get hammered for its addictiveness was Everquest,
earning it the title Evercrack. These days World of Warcraft is the scapegoat of
many incidents. Blizzard, the studio behind World of Warcraft, was brought to
the point of adding in-game messages in hopes of reminding addicted players to
take a break. Some people just don’t know how. If the player is shirking off
friends or dodging responsibility, it is very possible that the player is
addicted. If the player refuses to accept this, the player may just find out how
important he or she was in the real world, in a cruel way. Social ties will
detiorate, family members may drift away, jobs could be in danger, babies could
be marred by negligence.
If the player has an addictive personality, he or she should make sure there is
time to play that doesn’t interfere with real-world responsibilities. This kind
of planning can save a lot of unnecessary pain.
