ONLINE GAMES to become a winner
Online impact
Online games have saturated the internet and the computer world. The sites
that are dedicated to online games are legion and tempt any web surfer. Online
games like World of Warcraft have assembled an impossibly huge number of
subscribers (over 11.5 million). Online games have their own lists of products
that permeate everyday culture. World of Warcraft has its own clothing line.
Diablo II (yet another online title developed by Blizzard) is nearly 10 years
old and maintains a strong and never fading audience. Halo 3, of the iconic Halo
series, has seen over 17 million players online (2010) and has at least one
million online games daily. Online games have left a great impression on
society.
Online games are a force to be recognized. The statistics for just one popular
online game are mind boggling. The amount of money that is generated in just a
month from games like World of Warcraft could probably drown a state in green.
Online games aren’t just playthings like toy trains, and garner some respect for
the gaming industry. It hard to find someone who doesn’t have some online game
they play for some fun on the side. Its even harder to avoid advertising for
online games and hats with their logos or emblems stitched on the front. World
of Warcraft is popular to the point that it has assembled its own sub-culture.
Stories, inside jokes, dreams, and evening plans revolve around the game, almost
as if Azeroth is a second world to live in.
Just as people live in the world of the games, the games sometimes pop into the
real world. Episodes of shows sometimes feature a certain game, possibly even
centering the episode around the game. Movies have been made based on the plots
and gameplay of online games. South Park has dedicated one of its episodes to
the wiles of World of Warcraft, and the Warcraft series is expected to have a
movie based around the plot of the series. There is just no ignoring the power
that online games exert on today’s culture. It is all enveloping and strong. It
wouldn’t be surprising to see a restaurant open up based on an online game’s
food.
